It starred Simon Jones as Arthur Dent, David Dixon as Ford Prefect, Mark Wing-Davey as Zaphod Beeblebrox, Sandra Dickinson as Trillian and Stephen Moore as the voice of Marvin (several reprising their roles from the BBC radio series). The series aired in early 1981 in the UK and was made available to PBS stations in the US the following year. It was based on a radio play by Douglas Adams, a play which was later turned into a novel, an LP and a stage show. The program was a sci fi comedy called THE HITCHHIKER’S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY. On 15 July 1982, the University of North Carolina Center for Public Television debuted a new comedy series from the BBC.
